Why Are Clergy So Unhealthy? Constructively Engaging Pastoral Wellness Challenges
Course #: 1-B
By almost every measure, clergy are unhealthier than the average U.S. population, with many of these health issues already evident among seminarians. Using Carl Jung’s work as a theoretical basis, this presentation will explore why both pastors and those preparing for ordained church service experience such diminished health.
Karen and Travis Webster are both ordained PC (USA) pastors and co-founders of the Healthy Seminarians-Health Church (HSHC) non-profit. Karen is currently serving as the HSHC’s executive director and Travis is pursuing a ThD in pastoral counseling at Columbia Theological Seminary (Decatur, GA). Together they enjoy engaging seminarians, clergy, and congregations in a variety of health and wellness initiatives.
